Visit Pamukkale in Turkey

Pamukkale is located in the south-west of Turkey, more precisely in the hollow of the sublime valley of the Meander River, in the province of Denizli. Located fifteen kilometers northeast of the city of the same name, it is very close to the ruins of Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa town founded over 2000 years ago. Hierapolis includes the ruins of a theater particularly well preserved from the ravages of time as well as a staggering two kilometer long necropolis.

This splendid natural site is a must! The hill of Pamukkale is covered with pristine white limestone, coming from the hot springs of the region which makes the place almost unreal. As for the ancient basin, it is world famous for its submerged Roman columns, the unfortunate consequence of a devastating earthquake.

From almost all cities and tourist sites in Turkey, it is possible to get to Pamukkale. Either by taking an organized excursion or by taking public transport. Excursions are usually one day. They include transport, entrance to the various sites of Pamukkale and often a lunch. Convenient but more expensive than traveling on your own and the downside is that your time there is limited.

 

You should know that taking public transport in Turkey is very easy. To get to Pamukkale from Antalya, you have several bus lines that leave several times a day. In high season, it is better to book your ticket in advance if you want to leave at a specific time. In low season, just go to the bus terminal and buy your ticket from the driver. Some buses take you to Pamukkale village directly and some others take you to Denizli, the nearest town to Pamukkale.

The only issue with this option is that it takes long time , and if you have kids with you in the trip , it could be a real challenge .
